RELIEVE HEEL PAIN NOW WITH SPECIALISTS AT LMC FOOTCARE
Heel Pain
Heel pain is a common issue that affects people of any age. The patients we see for treatment come in with various causes and symptoms. If heel pain is left untreated, it can develop into a chronic problem requiring longer recovery.
Causes
There are many causes of heel pain. One of the most common issues is bottom of the heel pain, called plantar fasciitis (you may have also seen it misspelled as plantarfasciitis).
Some of the other causes include
- Achilles tendinitis may also be called Achilles heel, which is back of the heel pain.
- Unsupportive footwear.
- Weight gain.
- Fasciitis (inflammation of the skin tissue surrounding muscles, nerves, fat, and blood vessels called the fascia).
- Walking or standing for long hours.
- Overpronation, known as flat feet.
- Super pronation, which occurs when your foot rolls inward as you walk.
- A heel spur happens when calcium deposits build up on the bottom of the heel bone.
Symptoms
The symptoms of heel pain vary, depending on the type and location of your pain. Some include:
- A painful foot
- Bottom of heel pain
- Painful foot arch
- Pain in heel of foot
- Achilles tendon pain (top of your heel)
- Pain in back of heel
- Heel pain walking
- A sore heel
- Pain on foot top
Treatment
If you’re experiencing heel pain, the one thing you don’t want to do is ignore it. Ignoring pain can lead to more damage to your foot. It may surprise you, but something as small as a mild ingrown toenail left untreated can cause an infection that can spread to other parts of your foot, including your heel.
We recommend getting immediate plantar fasciitis treatment or treatment for the type of heel pain you have.
Some treatments Options
Initial Treatments to Ease Heel Pain
Foot Stretching: We usually suggest simple foot stretching or plantar fasciitis stretching techniques to help relieve pain.
Icing your heel pain: Putting ice directly on the portion of your heel causing pain can help provide temporary relief.
Medication: Occasionally, we prescribe antibiotics to treat an infection, or we may prescribe temporary pain relief medication.

Custom Orthotics (Custom Orthoses)
Orthotics are a longer-term solution to help stop the issue from happening again. Custom orthotics made specifically for your foot structure correct the parts of your foot that cause the problem. Orthoses (the braces) help keep your bones, muscles, and fascia in the correct position.
During diagnosis, we may discover an unrelated issue causing your heel pain. The main concern may be with your foot or ankle. In that instance, we customize an ankle foot orthosis or foot orthosis designed to support those areas.
After some time, you will notice your heel pain disappear.
