Bunion Conditions and Treatments For Pain
Foot Condition - Bunion
Common Causes of Bunions
- Improperly fitting footwear, including pointy or narrow-toed shoes and heels, can cause bunions. They can also cause a bunion on pinky toe, known as Tailor’s Bunion.
- Overpronation (foot rolls inward) can cause a bunion to form.
- Diseases such as lupus and arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, can cause bunions on feet.
- Genetics may play a part in if you develop bunions. But bunion prevention is possible by wearing proper shoes with enough width at the toes and taking care of issues such as overpronation.
Some Bunion Symptoms
- Pain at the toe joint growth, especially when wearing shoes that might be too tight.
- Toe joint inflammation.
- Toe joint stiffness in more advanced cases.
- The little toes may start moving into hammer or claw positions.
- Corns or Callus under the big toe joint or pads of the feet.
Bunion Treatments
Bunion Aligners
Orthotics
Custom-made orthotics for bunions aid to support the foot in a more optimal position. Orthotics are a long-term solution to slow down bunion progression and may also be prescribed after surgery to help control and correct the foot mechanics that originally caused the problem.

Laser Therapy for Foot Pain
(Available at our Vaughan clinic only)
Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment option used to help reduce foot pain and inflammation while supporting the body’s natural healing process. It uses targeted light energy applied to the affected area to stimulate tissue repair and improve circulation.
Laser therapy may be used to help manage:
- Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
- Soft tissue injuries of the foot
- Chronic or recurring foot pain
Treatments are quick, comfortable, and require no downtime. A series of sessions is typically recommended for best results, depending on your condition and treatment goals.
Your clinician will complete a full assessment to determine whether laser therapy is an appropriate treatment option for you.
This service is currently offered at our Vaughan clinic only.
