Insurance & referrals
You don’t need a referral to see a chiropodist at LMC Footcare Bayview/Midtown Toronto; we accept all patients. OHIP doesn’t currently cover chiropody services. If you plan to buy orthotics from a Canadian Certified Pedorthist and submit the cost to your private insurance, your insurer may require a referral from your family doctor or nurse practitioner.
FAQs
No. OHIP does not cover chiropody or podiatry visits in Ontario. Most extended health plans do cover chiropody as a paramedical service, and we give you documentation to submit for reimbursement.
Both treat foot conditions. In Ontario, chiropodists are the more common regulated foot specialists and handle assessment, diagnosis, orthotics, nail surgery and wound care. Podiatrists have a broader surgical scope. For most foot pain, nail and skin problems, a chiropodist is the right first stop.
Plan for about 60 minutes. That covers history, a hands-on assessment, and starting treatment where possible.
Yes. We complete a biomechanical assessment and have your orthotics built to prescription.
